The Questions Project: Veronica DeStefano

Veronica DeStefano is a junior here at Mizzou. She’s a magazine writing journalism major minoring in textile and apparel management, and last time I checked she has more buttons on the back of her backpack in support of various organizations/causes than any other person I know.

You can find her in the front of the student crowd (aka Tiger’s Lair) during football season. Even when it’s freezing. Girl goes hard.

1. What was the last picture you took with your phone?
The last photo I took on my phone was of the columns and Jesse at 6:30 p.m. last (Thursday) night. Super cheesy, but it was so quiet that it was perfect.

2. Have you ever been pulled over by a cop?
Yes, I have. I once got pulled over by a local private university police back home for “going 60 in a 45” (there was no way that happened) on the road sort of by the university, but he let me off with a warning. I got pulled over by MUPD by taking a short cut in VAG accidentally when I was tired after making bulletin boards. #reslife

3. What’s your heritage?
I am a mutt. I am Italian on both sides. From my mom’s side, I am Cuban and Lithuanian. On my dad’s side I have a bit of German and/or English.

4. Describe the perfect pizza.
My perfect ‘za would have pineapple and a ton of meat, like sausage, some bacon (Canadian and otherwise), some pepperoni, some meatballs. And I guess I would have a teeny bit of spinach on there to pretend it is healthy.

5. What was your first thought when you woke up this morning?
I thought about how I couldn’t wait to get my mag editing exam over with, go to work and talk to potential students about recalls (NERD), and then possibly nap and catch up on the bachelor. I pretty much kept thinking about my possible future nap.

6. Who was the last person you sang to and what did you sing?
I sang Happy Birthday to supervisor last night. Before that I sang Taylor Swift to Julia Bush at the Community Outreach desk at the Missourian.

7. What question do you hate being asked?
I hate being asked if I am okay a lot right after I get hurt or something like that. This would happen in lacrosse and soccer a lot and I would get so overwhelmed that I would start crying and get angry that I was crying because I wouldn’t be if they didn’t harp on me so much.

8. If you could have only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably spaghetti and meatballs because I could honestly eat meatballs every single day of my life right now.

9. How do you start a conversation?
I am one of those people that will join in a conversation with a friend and their friend that I don’t know and then I will be like “Oh, by the way, my name is Veronica! [insert compliment about outfit or eyebrows here].” But, if it is just me walking up to someone I know it’s probably still going to be a compliment of the outfit/how lovely they are and calling them homie.

10. Have you ever eaten a crayon? What’s the strangest thing you’ve eaten?
I have never eaten a crayon, but I used to love to eat play-doh. I usually only liked to eat whatever was stuck under my fingernails. As a child I would just eat butter patties at restaurants. I also drank out of a bird bath.

11. Are you still learning who you are?
I am definitely still learning who I am, but I have started to become a lot more comfortable with who I am and letting other people know who I am. I feel like I was confident before but still worried a lot about how people perceived me. I still worry a bit about how people perceive me but I don’t really worry about people talking about me as much.

12. What’re you afraid of?
I am afraid of letting people down. I am also afraid of someone literally stabbing me in the back, like with a knife. I am afraid of failing miserably. I can deal with some failure, but not a lot.

13. Do you dance?
YES I DANCE. I used to actually do jazz, tap and hip-hop for most of my childhood and teen years. I miss it so much. I now just get down “in the club.” It’s a blessing and a curse because sometimes it attracts creepy 28-year-olds from Omaha.

14. What’s the weirdest thing about you?
The weirdest thing about me is probably my love of that numb feeling you get when it is cold out. It makes me feel happy and alive.

15. What’s the most normal thing about you?
The most normal thing about me is my love of basic things, like frozen yogurt and jamming to top 40 radio in the car.

16. What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Besides just pure ignorance, a pet peeve of mine is when people start telling you a story/secret and then are like “oh never mind…” I will never drop it, so just tell me. Also, I hate over air-conditioned or over-heated stores/public places.

17. What’s a skill you’d like to learn and why?
Besides coding more, I would love to learn the skill of saying no. I am a big “probably” or “maybe” girl and I don’t really know when I should just let myself do my thing and that it’s okay to not cater to everyone.

18. How would your friends describe you?
My friends would probably describe me as someone that “knows everyone,” which drives me nuts because I don’t. They would also describe me as someone who is funny, kind of crazy, a little fashionista, and a Head Bitch In Charge. Some might say I am too nice at times, while others will say I am too blunt at times. They will say I am all over.
